JOHN KIDD RESERVE

Public BBQ

This unassuming reserve proves that sometimes the best discoveries are the ones you stumble upon rather than seek out. The centrepiece is undoubtedly the oversized model lizard,a charmingly eccentric addition that immediately signals this isn't your typical suburban park. Alongside stands an equally impressive frog sculpture, creating an unexpectedly whimsical atmosphere. The practical amenities are thoughtfully arranged: six picnic tables with three positioned under shelter for those inevitable Australian weather surprises. A single barbecue handles the cooking duties, while a half basketball court adds recreational variety beyond the standard playground equipment. The spacious layout prevents the cramped feeling common to many urban reserves. There's an honest, no-frills quality to the place that's rather refreshing. It's the sort of spot where families can claim a shaded table, fire up the barbie, and let the kids burn energy on the playground while parents appreciate the unhurried pace. The giant reptilian residents add just enough personality to make it memorable without veering into kitsch territory.
